TRIBECA NEW MUSIC:

FOUNDERS - SONGS FOR THE END OF TIME

TNM is pleased to present the Brooklyn-based ensemble FOUNDERS, who will perform Songs for the End of Time on the Tribeca New Music 2019 Festival series at Nancy Manocherian’s – The Cell, 338 West 23rd Street, on ThursdayJune 13, at 7pmSongs for the End of Time will feature the world premiere of the complete, re-imagined Quartet for the End of Time  by Olivier Messiaen, as well as original songs and compositions by Founders. Drawing inspiration from the Quartet,  Founders has created a program utilizing Gregorian chant, Sacred Harp, and Bulgarian folk music to illustrate love, the divine, and the final apocalypse.

Founders is a performer/composer collective comprised of five conservatory-trained musicians: Ben Russell - violin/vocals; Brandon Ridenour - trumpet/piano; Hamilton Berry - cello/vocals; Yoonah Kim - clarinet; and Sam Suggs - bass. Combining classical and folk music with original compositions and pop arrangements, Founders is reimagining the concert experience. As the New York Music Daily states, "Their excellent debut album, You & Who, is unlike anything else out there right now.” Founders brings a fresh perspective to a modern-day classical ensemble.

With a nod to the great performer/composers in the past, Founders sets the composer back on stage with virtuosity. As individual collaborators, the musicians have performed with acclaimed songwriters such as James Taylor, Sufjan Stevens, Sting, and Björk, as well as with elite classical ensembles such as Canadian Brass, A Far Cry, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. They have been featured on the stages of Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Walt Disney Hall, and Lincoln Center as well as on television broadcasts such as The Late Show and SNL. With their unique musical vision, Founders is thrilling audiences around the world.
