Join CCO for An Evening with Jack Beeson , renowned composer and MacDowell Professor Emeritus of Music at Columbia University, in celebration of his new book, How Operas are Created by Composers and Librettists .

Dr. Beeson will speak about his new book and his life in music and opera. The program will feature several of his songs as well as excerpts from his opera Lizzie Borden .

About Jack Beeson
Beeson considers himself first and foremost an opera composer; his greatest success was the 1965 production of Lizzie Borden at New York City Opera. As a professor of composition at Columbia University, Beeson has influenced a new generation of composers including Charles Wuorinen, Phillip Ramey, Alice Shields, Joan Tower, Harvey Sollberger, Bright Sheng and Richard Einhorn.
